Signs It's Time for a New Bra
Bras work hard every day, and like anything worn regularly, they don’t last forever. If your bra isn’t feeling as supportive or comfortable as it once did, it may be time for a replacement. Here are some common signs to look out for.
1. The Band Has Lost Its Stretch: The band provides most of a bra’s support. If it’s riding up your back, feeling loose, or you’re already wearing it on the tightest hook, the elastic has likely worn out, and the bra can no longer support you properly.
2. You’re Constantly Adjusting It: If you’re pulling down straps, shifting the band, or readjusting throughout the day, your bra isn’t doing its job anymore. A well-fitting bra should stay in place without constant attention.
3. The Cups Don’t Sit Smoothly: Wrinkling, gaping, or spillage in the cups can mean the fabric has lost its shape or that your body has changed. Either way, it’s a sign the bra no longer fits as it should.
4. Underwires Are Uncomfortable: Underwires should frame your breast tissue comfortably, not dig in, poke, or twist. Discomfort often means the bra is worn out or no longer the right size or shape for you.
5. You Can’t Wait to Take It Off: While bras don’t have to feel invisible, they also shouldn’t be something you’re desperate to remove at the end of the day. Ongoing discomfort is a clear signal it’s time for something better.
How Often Should You Replace a Bra?
With regular wear, most bras last around 6–12 months. Rotating between a few bras and caring for them properly can help extend their lifespan, but eventually, every bra needs replacing.
Needing a new bra doesn’t mean you’ve done anything wrong. Bodies change, bras wear out, and sizing isn’t static. A professional bra fitting can help you find the right size and style for how your body is now with comfort and support as the priority.
